Kenneth Mark Hollar, 68, went to be with Jesus in his heavenly home on May 18, 2022 at Amorem Hospice in Hudson, NC. He experienced a sudden and serious battle with cancer that took his life too soon from those who loved him so much. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Ken managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. Ken was born in Lenoir on August 28, 1953 to the late Ruby Small Hollar and Alfred Haywood Hollar. He was a 1971 graduate of Hudson High School. For many years he worked in the furniture industry, followed by Kimble Glass. He retired after 15 years of service from Lowe’s Hardware in 2018. After retirement, his favorite job was serving as the janitor at Meadowbrook Baptist Church. Ken was a life-long, avid fan of the UNC Tar Heels Men’s Basketball team. He enjoyed playing with his two basset hounds, Sam and Homer, golfing, spending time with family and especially his grandchildren. Ken was a faithful Christian man. He was a charter member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church where he served in many roles such as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member, youth and Royal Ambassador teacher. He was awarded the Honorary Lifetime Deacon award in early May 2022. He had an incredible gift of encouragement and used it with everyone he met. Ken had a special way of uplifting people and sharing the love of Jesus with all those around him. Ken loved his family with his whole heart. Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 47.5 years, Kay Pope Hollar; daughter, Laura Hollar Beck and husband, Adam Beck; son, Joshua William Hollar and wife Coline Hollar; three precious grandchildren, Davis & Allie Grace Beck and Zachary Hollar. He is also survived by his siblings Steve Hollar, wife Pat; sisters Joan Brookshire and Judy Mullis; brother, Bruce Hollar. He was also loved by many nieces and nephews and a special sister-in-law, Brenda Gragg. The celebration of life will be held at Meadowbrook Baptist Church on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at 4:00 pm lead by Rev. Roger Beck. The family would like to extend special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Amorem Hospice in Hudson. Memorial contributions can be made to Meadowbrook Baptist Church or Amorem Hospice.
