Katie Sue Garland

Katie Sue Dugger Garland, 57, of Lenoir, died October 17, 2013 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson. Mrs. Garland was born to the late William Freeman and Mierl Harmon Dugger in Avery County on July 24, 1956. She worked for years as a waitress, cook, and cashier at Mammy’s Country Kitchen, where she had many regular customers. She was a member of the Route 66 car club and an avid collector; among her favorites were her Wizard of Oz and porcelain doll collections. But her most prized possessions were her six beautiful grandchildren: Stacie, Cara, Emma, Sadie, Riley, and Cooper. Mrs. Garland is survived by her son, Rickey Garland and his wife, Beth of Hampstead, NC; daughter Rebecca Harris and her husband, Brandon of Hildebran; brother Richard Dugger and his wife, Rita of Conover; brother Jerry Dugger and his wife, Lisa of Butler, TN and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Garland is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 40 years, Ricky Garland, and sister, Brenda Ellis. The visitation will be held on Saturday, October 19th at Evans Funeral Home in Lenoir from 2-3 pm with the Revs. Tony Bowman and Clyde Bumgarner officiating at the service immediately following. Interment will be at the Harmon Cemetery in Beech Mountain on Sunday, October 20th at 12 pm. Pallbearers will be Brandon Harris, Caleb Hildebran, Allen Dugger, Travis Dugger, and Travis Anglin. The children and grandchildren would like to give special thanks to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care for the loving treatment their parents and grandparents received there, and also to their aunts Rita and Lisa for their unending love and support during this incredibly difficult time.
