Kathleen Cherry Viverette

Hilton Head, SC - Kate C. Viverette, 91, of Palmetto Dunes and the Hawthorne Inn, Hilton Head Island, SC passed away on April 28, 2011. Kate was born Nov. 12, 1919, in Rocky Mount, NC, the youngest of nine children of Charles H. and Annabel Mayo Cherry. She was preceded in death by brothers Mayo, Thad, Tom, Frank and Hugh and by sisters Ruth, Annie and Mabel. Her husband of 65 years, Cecil E Viverette, passed away in 2005. Surviving are son Cecil E Viverette, Jr. and wife Frances of Hilton Head Island and daughter Edith V Hipp and husband Jim of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren Frances Amanda Willis of Chester, VA, Cecil E Viverette III of Lincolnton, NC, James Aaron Hipp of St. Louis, MO and Kathleen H Burgwyn of Cary, NC and six great grandchildren. A long time resident of Lenoir, NC, Kate was active in many civic and church related activities and groups, while being a very supportive wife and mother. In the early 1960’s, she accompanied her husband to Santa Cruz, Bolivia as they worked with US AID and Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation to establish Cooperative Rural de Electrification, bringing the first reliable electric service to the city. Kate remained active throughout her life having been blessed by God with good health and loving family and friends. She enjoyed spending time on the beach and did so in the last week of her life with her young great grandchildren. In turn, her life was a blessing beyond measure to all who knew her. The family will receive friends at the home of Cecil and Frances Viverette, 3 Legacy Court, Indigo Run at 5 PM on Sunday, May 1, 2011. Graveside services will be at Lower Creek Baptist Church, Lenoir, NC at 4 PM on Monday, May 2, 2011, with visitation in the church fellowship one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Lower Creek Baptist Church, 633 Lower Creek Dr, Lenoir, NC or to the Hilton Head Humane Association. Evans Funeral Service of Lenoir is in charge of arrangements.  PDF Printable Version
