Kathrine "Kathy" Greer Hawkins

May 9, 1954 — February 17, 2024

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Kathrine “Kathy” Greer Hawkins, a beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend. Kathy departed from this world on February 17, 2024, leaving behind a void that can never be filled. She was a vibrant soul who brought joy and laughter wherever she went.

Kathy was mischievous and full of life, embodying a boundless energy and a playful personality that endeared her to everyone she met. Known for her affinity for smiley faces and giraffes, Kathy found joy in life's simple pleasures. She had a unique way of spreading happiness, often reaching out to her loved ones at the crack of dawn to sing a cheerful rendition of "Happy Birthday," even if singing was not counted among her many talents. Her quirky and endearing habits became a source of warmth and fond memories for those fortunate enough to be part of her life.

Kathy's light was like a spotlight, illuminating the lives of those around her. The world feels dimmer without her infectious smile and genuine love. While we mourn the loss of this remarkable soul, let us remember the light she brought into our lives and honor her memory by spreading joy and kindness.

Those left to cherish Kathy’s memory include her husband of almost 50 years, Doug Hawkins; beloved dog, Snuffy; brother, Gary Greer (Lisa); sisters, Theresa Harrison (Eddie) and Donna Nichols (Boyd Campbell); sisters-in-law, Sylvia Dula (Steve) and Debbie Nelson (Dennis).

Her love for her nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews knew no bounds; they were the lights of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.  Kathy’s nieces and nephews are Kevin Greer (Lori), Darrin Greer (April), Tennille Hall (Kev), Anthony Harrison (Hannah), Emily Frankoff (Ryne), Morgan Nichols, Jacob Nichols, Scott Dula (Jennifer), Sara Smith (Stephen), and Kristy Joplin.  Great-nieces and nephews are Kyla, Alisha, Ivie, Bethany, Logan, Lily, Tilly Kate, Avyn, Knox, Tyler, Beckham, JR, and Rueben.

Friendship was very important to Kathy.  Throughout her life, Kathy amassed a huge number of friends whom she cherished dearly.  However, she especially treasured her weekly card-playing group and the friends made during years of attending car shows.

In tribute to Kathy's legacy, let us take her cherished smiley faces and share them with others. Embrace random acts of kindness as she did, for she believed in the power of love to make the world a better place. In the midst of our grief, let us come together to continue her ministry of love, making a positive impact in the world just as she did throughout her life.

Kathy may no longer be with us physically, but her spirit, love, and laughter will forever echo in our hearts. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the joy and happiness she so freely shared with the world.

A memorial service celebrating Kathy’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2024, in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home in Lenoir, followed by a gathering of friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to Amorem.
