June Lee Smith

June Smith Lenoir, NC –June Lee Smith, age 84, passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. June was born in Caldwell County on January 25, 1928 to the late Julius Livingston Smith and Connie Conway Smith. He was married to Evelyn Jean Wilson Smith for 65 years. June was a veteran having served with the Merchant Marines and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Lower Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, as well as a member of other committees. He loved his church and the people in it and in return he was respected by them. June also served in the Lenoir Optimist Club for years. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jefferson Lee Smith and his sister, Rachel Smith. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Kenneth Smith and wife, Lynn of Lenoir; sisters, Margaret Scronce and husband, Lester of Granite Falls; Charlotte Smith of Granite Falls; brothers, Jim Smith and wife, Anna Dean of Hudson; Doug Smith and wife, Susan of Scottsdale, AZ; Allan Smith and wife, Donna of Granite Falls; grandsons, David Smith and wife, Misti of Charlotte, Sean Smith and wife, Melissa of Hudson, and Ryan Smith of Lenoir; great-grandchildren, Brianna Smith, Mikayla Smith, Dylan Smith, and Carson Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service for June will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Lower Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Todd Braswell and Reverend Bert Blackburn officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in the Lower Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 9, 2012 from 6:00 until 7:30 in the fellowship hall of Lower Creek Baptist Church.
