Judy Ollis

March 20, 1945 — June 22, 2024

Judy Elizabeth Ollis was born and raised in the mountains of Avery County, North Carolina, the fifth of nine sisters and brothers born to Bill and Zola Ollis.  A committed Christian, Judy was nurtured in the faith by her parents and the good people of Pine Grove Methodist Church.  A bright and inquisitive student, she attended Riverside Elementary School and Crossnore High School.  Judy went on the Western Carolina University where she discovered a bent for accounting.  She worked for GFCO at Grandfather Mountain and later for a manufacturing firm in Charlotte over a 40 + year career.  Judy had an independent spirit and, on her own, purchased a home in the Dilworth section of Charlotte and lived there for 30 years.  During that time she was an avid member of Dilworth UMC, serving Christ and the church in various capacities.  She especially treasured mission trips to Mexico.  In retirement she sold her Charlotte home and moved to Hickory where she became a member of St. Luke’s UMC.  Judy loved her Sunday school class and participated faithfully until her death.

Although Judy never married, she reveled in her siblings and extended family.  She was a beloved sister to her brothers Jim, John, Joe, Jack, Jock and Jerry and to her sisters Jean and Joyce.  Judy was so proud of her many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.  She could be found traveling across the country to support those she loved so well in their various activities.  These young people never had a greater fan or supporter than their Aunt Judy.  Judy was always the center of every family gathering where her infectious personality and laughter were so evident.  It won’t be the same without her, but with great thanksgiving, we celebrate her promotion from the church militant to the church triumphant, from the Ollis family to Heaven's family.

A service of resurrection and remembrance will be held Saturday June 29, 2024 1:00 PM at Pine Grove UMC in Ingalls, North Carolina. Interment will be in the church cemetery following the service.  The family will greet friends at the church from noon until 1:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that Judy be honored and memorialized by a gift to the church of your choosing or any ministry that lifts up the name of Jesus Christ.  We lovingly commend Judy to His eternal care.  God bless us all.
