Judy Greene Fata

Judy Greene Fata, 67, died Thursday, August 14, 2014, at her home in Bishopville, SC. She is preceded in death by parents Vernie and Edith Greene, and brothers, Ira Norman Greene, Harvey Eugene Greene, and Ward William Greene. Born January 12, 1947, Judy grew up in Lenoir, NC alongside her seven brothers on her family’s farm nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains.Her childhood days were spent exploring wooded hills resplendent with waterfalls and wildlife.From the mountains, she learned an independence of spirit and love for the outdoors that would follow her for the rest of her life. Judy graduated from King’s College in 1967 with an Associate’s Degree.She worked as an executive secretary in Charlotte, NC for the Vice-President of First Union bank and later as the personal secretary for the University of South Carolina Director of Intramurals. After moving to Bishopville, SC, Judy spent the remainder of her professional life working as a medical secretary for the SC Department of Health and the Department of Social Services. Judy will always be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Paul and Cynthia Fata and brothers and sisters-in-law Paul and Sue Greene, Jack and Jeanette Greene, George and Louise Greene, and Jerry and Kay Greene.She is also survived by her uncle, Fred Barlow of Melbourne, FL and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Piney Grove Baptist Church on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 PM In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, 107 Westpark Boulevard, Suite 220, Columbia, South Carolina, 29210.
