Joyce Chester Spears "Joda"

Joyce Chester Spears “Joda”, age 74, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024 at her residence. She was born in Caldwell County on January 29, 1949 to the late G.R. and Freda Chester. She was married to David Spears of the residence for 43 years.

Joyce was a member of Littlejohn United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women. She was passionate about foster children and for 13 years she and David fostered more than 10 children. In-home health care was another passion, as she would care for the elderly and terminally ill. Joyce enjoyed flowers and working in the garden with her family, crocheting her many blankets, making friends with the street-rodding community, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Joyce was a receptionist at Caldwell Memorial Hospital for 15 years where she worked alongside her brother, Wayne “Motto” Chester.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Barry Chester, Wayne Chester, Bill Chester; nephews, Shane Chester and Scott Swanson; and brother-in-law, Bob Archer.

Other than her husband, she is survived by her daughters, LaRae Spears Bradshaw and husband, Ken; Becki Watson and husband, Tony; Sandy Greene and husband, Mark; Brandi Spears; sisters, Barbara Chester Oliver and husband, Garlund; Debi Chester Archer; Karen Chester Nelson and husband, Junior; grandchildren, Brooke Robbins; Dallas Greene; Riley Greene; great-grandchildren, Thatcher Robbins and Stetson Wright; and numerous other family members.

A graveside celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at Littlejohn United Methodist Church Cemetery on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 12:00 Noon with Pastor David Payne officiating.
