Joyce Snipes Beane

Joyce Snipes Beane, 82, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024. She was born on January 17, 1942, in Spruce Pine, she was the daughter of the late Hollis Fred and Lorene Wilkie Snipes.  She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Martha Snipes, Patricia Snipes Wilgus, and Jacqueline Snipes and a daughter-in-law, Donna Baker Beane.

Joyce graduated from Harris High School, Spruce Pine, NC; and Gardner-Webb University.  She worked for Broyhill Furniture for 25 years, most of which were as a Purchasing Agent for the fabric and leather for their upholstery products.  While working at Broyhill, she made and kept many wonderful friends.  She also worked for Hickory Hill Furniture in Valdese.

Above all she cherished her husband, Jerry of 63 years, her sons Jason Gavin and wife, Rebecca Price Beane, Jarrod Wesley and wife Tracie McGuire Beane and especially her awesome grandsons Carter, Dawson, Isaac, Jeremiah and Seth Beane.  Among her accomplishments were:  Pianist in her home church in Spruce Pine, Grassy Creek Baptist, for many years; Pianist for a quartet which was broadcasted on the radio every Sunday afternoon.  She was the First Queen with Scepter in Girls Auxiliary for Mitchell County; and a Cheerleader at Gardner-Webb University (who mainly cheered for her favorite star player, Jerry).  Traveling was a great passion.  She and Jerry visited Canada and every state except two.  Several trips were made with friends Ron and Karen Smith; and two trips were made to Europe with her sister, Patricia.  Other enjoyments were music, flower gardening, family gatherings, keeping up with facebook, reading, and playing AARP games on her laptop.  All of these were wonderful, but her very favorite pastime was keeping the five grandsons who were the sunshine of her life.

A service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 1:30 PM at Evans Funeral Service.  A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Evans Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105, in memory of Joyce.
