Johnny Farthing

Mr. John “Johnny” Farthing, age 74, of Granite Falls passed away on Monday, December 9, 2019 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Born October 12, 1945 in Caldwell county, Johnny was the son of the late Don and Tressie Phillips Farthing.Johnny lived life large and never met a stranger.He could out talk anyone who would listen.Johnny was supervisor at Sherrill Furniture in Morganton for over 20 years.He loved fast cars and golfing.His passion for many years was sitting behind the wheel of his race car.Most weekends you would find Johnny at the Hudson Drag Strip entertaining the crowds with his competitive spirit. After retiring from racing, he took up golfing, which he made his top priority.He enjoyed playing weekly with his buddies and bringing home many trophies.He loved to win! Johnny was a family man and cherished his wife of 20 years, Lola. He enjoyed spending time with his children and extended family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Missy Witt (husband Dale) of Ohio, David Farthing (wife Kim) of Lenoir, Karen Warren (husband Scott), Marty Hart (wife Donna) and Tracy Burchette (husband Jeff); three sisters, Ruby Staton, Lucille King (husband Bob) and Sue Dugger; he is also survived by nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous other relatives. A celebration of Johnny’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, December 13, 2019 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Reverend Michael Staton and Reverend Jim Hamby officiating.Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Memorials can be made to Lakeview Baptist Church at 325 Shasta Lane SW, Lenoir, NC28645.
