John William Walker, 95, formerly of Clarks’ Chapel Road, Lenoir, died on December, 4, 2016 in Asheville, NC. He was the son of Henry Clay and Ora Goble Walker. He was also predeceased by his wife, Billie Christine Clark Walker, his brother, A.B. Walker, and his sisters: Agnes Smith, Mary Kaylor, Lenora Braswell, Faye Prestwood, Claydean Helton, Charlotte Fox and infant Mamie Walker. John and Billie were married for over 73 years prior to her death in 2010. John was a Navy veteran and a master upholsterer by trade. He was an active member of Colliers United Methodist Church and held a number of leadership positions in the church prior to moving to Lake Junaluska and then to Asheville to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Dottie and Lewis Gibbs. He is also survived by son and daughter-in-law Tony and Julie Walker of Gainesville, Georgia, and daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Charles Price of Hickory, NC, nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. John was a truly gentle man, who loved his family, his church family and his many friends, all of whom loved him in return. To the end of his long life, he never failed to ask how everyone was doing and to offer love and support.
