John Allen Simmons

Morganton, NC- Mr. John Allen Simmons, age 53, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Grace Hospital. Mr. Simmons was born in Caldwell County on November 22, 1958 to Shirley Curtis and the late Fred Simmons. He was married to Catherine Cook Simmons of the home. Mr. Simmons had retired four years ago from LandSpan, Inc. as a truck driver after having driven for more than 30 years. He loved fishing, attending car races, and he especially enjoyed cooking and gardening. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dean and Cora Curtis and Thomas and Effie Simmons. Other than his wife and mother, he is survived by his daughter, Erin Penland and husband, David of Charlotte; step-children, Cory Miller and wife, Kelli of Krebs, OK; Loretta Sigmon and husband, Brandon of Taylorsville; Kelly Miller of San Diego, CA; sisters, Susan Arney and husband, Tim of Lenoir; Sharon Houston and husband, Glen of Beulaville, NC; grandchildren, Kaylee Sigmon, Alissa Sigmon, and Tristen Miller; and three nieces and one nephew. A celebration of Mr. Simmons life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Charles Bristlle officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be: Brandon Sigmon, Jason Arney, Tim Arney, Tristen Miller, Robbie Gross, Mike Benfield, Jimmy Benfield and David Penland.
