John "Sam" Simes

Mr. John “Sam” Michael Simes, age 45, of Lenoir passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023 at Caldwell UNC Healthcare.

Born September 26, 1977 in Burke County, he was a son of John Michael Cox and the late Donna Watson Cox.  Sam was an avid fisherman and loved being outdoors.  He loved all things basketball.  Sam loved music.  He will be remembered as a simple man and loved spending time with his kids.  In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a special aunt, Sharon Watson.

In addition to his father, survivors include his fiancé, Stacey Marie Townsend; his children, Caleb Cox (Savannah Potts), Dana Simes, Derrick Simes, Tristian Carlton, Mary Beth Simes, Chloe Townsend and Abigail Townsend; two brothers, Pete Cox (Wife April) and Cody Cox (Wife Macy); a sister, Crystal Keener (Husband Tim); his grandchildren, Carolyne and Theodore; he is also survived by numerous other relatives.

A memorial service celebrating Sam’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Friday, March 3, 2023 at 4:00 PM.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
