John Everette Shelton

John Everette Shelton, 85, of Lenoir went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 23, 2022, at Lenoir Health Care Center.John Everette was a son of the late Albert and Louvina Shelton of Marion.In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Alma Shelton; a brother, Leonard Shelton of Granite Falls. John is survived by two daughters, Doris Shelton (Kenneth) and Teresa Hamrick (Glenn); his sisters, Ruby Foster (Raymond), Ruth Vance (Willis); brothers, Clifford Shelton (Barbara), Junior Shelton (Juanita), JC Shelton (Amanda); a sister-in-law, Linda Shelton; grandchildren, Lorie Hallford (Michael), Joseph Hamrick (Heather); his faithful dog, Lilly; he is also survived by four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. John worked in law enforcement in the late 70’s and early 80’s with the Caldwell County Sherriff’s office and Hudson Police Department.Later in life, he owned and operated a lawn care business.He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed growing a garden.He always shared his produce with family and friends.John loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them.He had the gift of never meeting a stranger.He was a member of Lenoir First Freewill Baptist Church and he loved his church family. A graveside celebration of John’s life will be held on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens at 2:00 PM.Officiating will be Pastor Larry Miller and Pastor Jim Lee.Serving as pallbearers will be Danny, Ricky and Christopher Shelton, Michael and Blake Hallford, and Joseph Hamrick. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or Lenoir First Freewill Baptist Church. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.evansfuneralservice.com.
