John Campbell Roberts, 75, passed away peacefully at home after an extended illness on Sunday, September 15, 2019. He was born on May 31, 1944, and a resident of Lenoir NC. He leaves behind his caring wife, Linda Key Roberts, and loving daughter, Tammie Annette Roberts; two granddaughters, Shania Estes and Hailey Paige Roberts; one great grandson, Dominic Estes; five step-children and seven step-grandchildren, and loyal canine, Tobey. He is also survived by sisters, Sue Roberts Cobb, Mitzi Whittington, Gail Jones, and one brother Joe Roberts, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert “Bob” Leslie Roberts, and mother, Genevieve Smith Roberts, and one brother Bobby Roberts. Campbell was hardworking, a loyal and true friend, a faithful, loving and giving father and husband. He was a great outdoorsman who loved to fish at his favorite place, Lake Fontana. He had an endearing sense of humor and effortlessly cracked original jokes that will leave those around him smiling for decades. The world just lost one of the good ones with a down to earth soul, but is now Heaven’s gain. A celebration of Mr. Roberts life will be held at Evans Funeral Service Chapel on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Ron Burgett officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. There will be a private family gathering at Lake Fontana, NC at a later date.
