Lenoir- John Rudolph Riggs, 90, stepped into eternity to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 30, 2016. His devotion to Christ and his family impacted many lives. John was an encourager to many, purposefully motivating and building others up, and lived his life as a servant-leader. He was a problem solver, a peacemaker, and a faithful husband and father. John, affectionately known by his family as “Dude,” was born to the late John Henry Riggs and Charlotte Flowers Triplett Riggs, in Lenoir, NC on October 25, 1925. He was a WWII veteran, Chief Petty Officer, retired, U.S. Navy. He was also retired from Broyhill Industries in Lenoir. John was a “Jack” of all trades and could do most anything. He especially loved gardening, playing affectionately with his grandchildren, and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Always active in his church, he taught Sunday school, was a deacon, served as treasurer, VBS teacher, Church Training teacher, was a faithful longtime member of The Gideons International, and was mentor and friend to many. John is survived by his wife, Peggy of the home; his son Fred Michael (Cynthia) of Hudson, NC; his daughter Mia Riggs Lyons (Gary) of Raleigh, NC; his daughter Kara Riggs Hensley (Alan) of Mebane, NC: his grandchildren Meredith Lyons, John Lyons, Ellen Hensley, Mollie Hensley, Jonathan Hensley, and his sisters, Sabra Melton, Mary Hickman, and Peggy Wilson. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Gwen Frye, and brothers, ZO Riggs, Ned Riggs, Alfred Bassill Riggs, and Bill Riggs. The family will be receiving friends and family on, Saturday, April 2, 2016m 1:00-3:00 PM at Crest View Baptist Church, Lenoir. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM at Crest View Baptist Church.
