John Webb Mayo, 86, peacefully passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025.
John was born on June 19, 1938, to the late John and Notie Mayo.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by a sister, Belma Jean Parks.
Those left to cherish John’s memory are his wife of 68 years, Dortha Mayo; children, Jean Brown, Peggy Hazard (Earl), and John Mayo (Angela); grandchildren, Lee, Todd (Jennifer), Ben, Erin (Jonah), Lauren, Alex; great grandchildren, Willa, Avett, Evaleigh; great great grandchild, Lyla Jane; brother, Pete Gordon Mayo (Elizabeth); and numerous other relatives.
John retired after 30 years of service from International Nickel Company (INCO) located in Huntington, WV. After retirement, John attended East Tennessee School of Preaching and worked as a full-time minister for 21 years. John’s hobbies included bass fishing, hunting, and biblical studies. Civil War History was among his many interests.
He was a wonderful Christian husband, father, and Paw. He loved his family and celebrated 68 years of marriage on January 27, 2025.
A service to celebrate John’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Lenoir Church of Christ at 3:00 PM with Minister Bill Haywood officiating. Burial will follow at the Lenoir Church of Christ cemetery.
