John Wilson Laxton

Lenoir, NC- Mr. John Wilson Laxton, age 95, of Lenoir, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care in Lenoir. Born July 3, 1918 in Caldwell County, Mr. Laxton was a son of the late John Levi and Callie Victoria Barlow Laxton and the husband of the late Virginia Elizabeth Tuttle Laxton to whom he was married over 72 years. Other than his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his only child, John Dale Laxton; two brothers, Roy Nelson Laxton and Carl Horton Laxton; one sister, Rose-Edna Laxton Helderman and nephew, John Bolden Laxton. Mr. Laxton was a lifelong member of Lower Creek Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and in many other positions. He was a member of the Hibriten Masonic Lodge #262 for over 60 years and a Shriner and Scottish Rites for over 50 years. He had owned and operated the Hickory Insulation Company. He is survived by 2 nieces, Laura Laxton Ingle of Asheville; Mary Callie Laxton of Atlanta, GA; several great-nieces and great-nephews along with many close friends and church family. A service celebrating the life of John Wilson Laxton will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Lower Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Don Ingle officiating. Burial will follow in the Lower Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will be receiving friends on Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service at the church. To honor Mr. Laxton, it is suggested that memorials be made to Lower Creek Baptist Church, 633 Lower Creek Drive, Lenoir, NC 28645.
