John Bartley Cloer

J.B. Cloer Hudson, NC- Mr. John Bartley “J.B.” Cloer, age 83, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care in Hudson. He was born in Caldwell County on April 26, 1929 to the late James Cloer and Mattie King Cloer. He was married to the late Ella Mae Annas Cloer for more than 50 years. J. B. was best known as “Mailman”, having served the Hudson area for many years as a mail carrier. He was a recipient of the Hudson Man of the Year award and served as a mentor at Hudson Middle School for the Communities in Schools program. J.B. often said that “he was born on one side of the hill and lived the rest of his life on the other side of the same hill.” He was very active in Friendship Baptist Church where he served in many different capacities including, Sunday School teacher and deacon. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Pauline Cloer, Charlotte Elrod, Granvel Cloer, and Weeta Fair. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Cloer Price, and husband, Edwin Price, Jr.; son, John K. Cloer; brother, Boyd Cloer and wife, Kathryn; grandchildren, Edwin Price, III, Sue Ellen Fankhauser,  Alicia Barlow and Brandon Rose; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of J.B.’s life will be held at Friendship Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Robert Setzer, Pastor Lonnie Bell, and Pastor Raymond Spann, officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service.
