John 'Shaver' Brown

John “Shaver” Vance Brown, 96, of Lenoir passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Wilkes County on July 29, 1920 to the late Pedro and Ethel Brown. He was married for 68 years to Callie Knight Brown of the residence. John was a decorated Veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Battle of the Bulge. His honors included 3 Bronze stars, a Purple Heart, Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He spent his entire working career as an upholsterer in the furniture industry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jonnie Brown Stallings, sisters, Juanita Scott; Willa Dean Triplett, Audrey Holden and Zelda Stallings; and brother, Albert Brown. Other than his wife, John is survived by his daughters, Tyra Brown Edwards; Alisa Brown Burns and husband, Jim; Callie Brown Greene; sisters, Diane O’Neil; Carolyn Harris; Francis Austin; grandchildren, Adrian Stallings, Kristin Burns Blankenship, Joshua Burns, Caleb Burns, Callie Nicole Brown; great-grandchildren, Jon Hartley, Kyle Hartley and Nathan Blankenship; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of John’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 11:30 AM with Pastor Hoss Moore officiating. Burial will be in Collier’s Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Caldwell County Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:30 prior to the service.
