Joanne Starling Meekins

 Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Joanne Starling Meekins, age 72, of Lenoir, died Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Lenoir Health Care Center. Born October 5, 1936 in Bluefield, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Edward and Roxie Johnson Starling and the wife of the late James Meekins, Sr. Mrs. Meekins was a loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother. She enjoyed playing Bingo and had worked in the furniture industry. Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Meekins, Byron Meekins; one daughter, Sherriann Meekins Jones; 5 brothers, Matthew, Howard, James, Clarence and her twin brother Curtis Starling; one sister, Clara Mae Scott and one grandson, Johnny Ford. She is survived by one daughter, Carol Yolanda Starling Jones and husband James of Vanceboro, NC; one son, James Meekins, Jr. and wife Collette of Lenoir; one sister in law, Ernestine Starling; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of Mrs. Meekins’ life will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 17, 2009 in the Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church with Reverend Ike Perkins and Reverend Jimmy Norwood officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 from 1:00 until 2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service at the church. The Family will also receive friends at the home of Marguerite Grimes, 119 A Calvary Place, Apt. 10, Lenoir, NC 28645.
