Lenoir – Jimmy D. Atkins, 71 of Gamewell, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at his home after a brief illness.Born October 20, 1943 in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Allie D. and Lura Caudle Atkins. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Scottie Sue Hamby, Barbara A. Young, Judy A. Stroud and Helen A. Mack. Jimmy found great enjoyment in playing golf, listening and picking bluegrass music.He was a wonderful man and will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elmedia West Atkins of the home and son, James Timothy Atkins of Houston, TX. He is also survived by a number of cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.He is survived by a very special little buddy, Christian Malachi Banks and a very special little princess, Ryver Lea Moss.Also a lifelong friend, Dennis Hamby is survived. A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, June 7, 2015 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Reverend Jim Hamby and Reverend Raymond Spann officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM, one hour prior to the service. A very special thank you to Hospice Nurse Julie Goodman, Social Worker, Kimberly Setzer and Volunteer Greg Duncan for their support and kindness.
