Jerry Lee Woods Jerry Lee Woods , 72 of Lenoir, NC passed away on Saturday, November 24. Jerry died at home with his family by his side. Jerry’s wife, Dollie Philyaw Woods, and two daughters, Karen Woods Phoenix and Yvette Woods Townsend, walked the path with him as he fought his six year battle with cancer. Jerry was born in Lenoir and lived a long life as a contributing member of the greater Caldwell County area. Jerry graduated from Hudson High School and had many friends who became lifelong friends. Jerry, an only child, was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie Laws Woods, his father Clyde Ervin Woods. Jerry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dollie Philyaw Woods and his two daughters, Yvette Woods Townsend and Karen Woods Phoenix and son in laws, Mike Phoenix and Mark Galleshaw. Jerry had four grandchildren, Breanna Townsend McKay and husband Chris and their two children; Izzy and Braeden, Eyan Townsend and wife Kristi, and grandchildren Ashlyn Munday and Dylan Phoenix. Jerry is also survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Additionally, Jerry is survived by his special friend-substitute brother, Barry Barber, who was by his side through the good and bad times of life. Best known for his work with car repair and sales, Jerry was a jack of many trades, working many roles as an upholsterer in furniture, a courier, a billboard sign installer, completing commercial roof installation, and advertising and sales for his own company. Ex-son in law Brent Townsend and his wife Tena have been a large part of the family helping out when and where they were needed. Since the 1980s, Jerry has been deeply involved in the political environment in Caldwell County. He was a strong advocate for people to exercise their right to vote and participated in some manner in every election. He was often seen at polls and rallies, encouraging citizens to vote. Jerry was a member of the Caldwell County Republican Party. He served as a member of the Republican Executive Committee and was a member of the Caldwell County GOP Men’s Club. Jerry served the town of Cajah Mountain for 24 years, almost since town incorporation. Jerry served on the Cajah Mountain Planning Board/Board of Adjustment from 1991-2003. He was a member of the Cajah Mountain Town Council for 9 years, serving in the role as the town’s Utility Committee and served as Mayor Pro Tem. Jerry served as a delegate from Cajah Mountain to the Western Piedmont Council of Government Policy Board. Jerry was a member of the Joint Regional Forum that represented our four county region on a state level. Additionally, Jerry was a member of the Greater Hickory Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization. Jerry was a vital member of the Cajah Mountain Lion’s Club, serving 24 years with the club. Jerry performed many roles with the organization. When he joined, he indicated he would serve in any capacity other than president, and he did. Community wide, Jerry was known for his outspoken gentle kindness. He let you know where he stood on issues, but did not let his opinions restrict his friendships or his helping heart. Jerry will be greatly missed by those left behind. He has left indelible imprints on everyone he touched. Visitation and Memorial service will be held on Saturday December first at Evans Funeral Service. Visitation will begin at 3:00, with the Memorial service to follow. PDF Printable Version
