Mr. Jennings Dermont Taylor, age 92, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to live in heaven, his eternal home on Thursday, July 11, 2019. Jennings was born November 22, 1926 to the late John Herman and Pearl Clark Taylor.He was retired from Taylor Construction Company.Jennings was a WWII era veteran of the US Army and served in occupied Japan.He was a member of Flemings Chapel Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, deacon and choir member.Jennings went on several mission trips to Ireland, Boston and Tarboro.He was a member of Gideons International and served as a state officer.Jennings was the final founding member of the Valmead Volunteer Fire Department where he served his community for many years.In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Pauline Pritchard; brothers, D.O. Taylor, Ned Taylor, Wade Taylor and an infant brother. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Devola “Dee” Taylor; their children, Janice Taylor Hamby (husband James) of Boone, Daniel “Danny” Taylor (wife Jennifer) andNancy Taylor Maltba (husband David) of Lenoir; their grandchildren, Brandon Maltba, Ashley Taylor, Justin Taylor, David Hamby, Julia Wade, Ivy Eicher, Holly Pagurek, Derrick Maltba and Dawn Maltba Thompson; eight great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many nephews and nieces. A memorial service celebrating Jennings life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Pastor Hugh Whitfield, Pastor Steve Parker and Pastor Jim Lee officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
