Jean Minton Setzer

Jean Minton Setzer, age 96, went home to be with the Lord on November 12, 2024 at her residence. She was born in Burke County on October 1, 1928 to the late Oscar and Ada Fleming Minton.

Jean was a life-long member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and at the time of her passing she was the oldest living member. She taught in the children’s Sunday School department for many years. She was in the last 11th grade graduating class at Hudson High School in 1945. Jean always had a love for animals and especially her dogs. She had an incredible work ethic and continued working at public work until the ripe old age of 80.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, D.A. Setzer; and her sister, Marjorie M. Holden.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Pam Hughes and husband, Ron; grandson, Brett Hughes; granddaughter, Bailee Hughes Burleson; great-granddaughter, Kinley Burleson; and numerous family members and friends.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 2:00 PM, with Chaplain Jason Hines officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.
