Delores Kirby Hudson, NC- Mrs. Janet Delores Craig Kirby, age 66, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Frye Regional Medical Center after a prolonged illness. She was born in Caldwell County on May 5, 1947 to the late Earl “Bobby†Craig and Hazel Coggins Craig. She was married to Daniel “Danny†Kirby of the home for 48 years. Delores was an active member of Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church where she faithfully served in various capacities over the years. She most enjoyed working with the children in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for more than 30 years. Delores also went on several Youth Mission trips. She enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts and spending time camping and meeting people from all over the country. Delores was a marvelous wife, mother, MawMaw, and homemaker. She looked forward to seeing her Lord and loved ones who went before her. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Kirby, II; brother, Gary Craig and sister, Pamela Craig Jenkins. Other than her husband she is survived by her daughter, Jan Kirby Wilcox and husband, Darryl; grandchildren, Heather Wilcox and Nicholas Wilcox; aunt, Mildred Underdown; and nieces, Lori Jenkins and Kristen Jenkins; and numerous family members. A celebration of Delores’ life will be held at Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 3:30 PM with Pastor Nicky Waters, Pastor Mark Dula, Pastor Bud Jernigan, and Pastor Ted Williams officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery. The Deacons of Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church will serve as Pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:30 prior to the service at the church. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church Building Fund, Poovey’s Chapel Church Road, Hudson, NC 28638.
