Lenoir – James Marvin Triplett, 83, passed away on Sunday, March 20. He was born in Moravian Falls, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents, Annie Lou Steele Triplett and James Walter Triplett and a sister, Beulah Warlick. Marvin served his country in the US Army, Artillery Division, during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed at Hokkaido, Japan. Upon returning to Lenoir, Marvin met and married Mary Jane Watson. March 30th would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. Marvin worked in furniture finishing having worked for Henredon, Bernhardt and Valspar. In 1975 he and Mary Jane took over Watson's Market from Mary Jane's father, Poovey Watson. Marvin was an avid outdoorsman who lived life to the fullest. He loved to joke and laugh with his friends. He enjoyed boating and waterskiing and was one of the organizers of the Lenoir Ski Club. He loved hunting and fishing. He was a master gardener, a bee keeper and enjoyed panning for gold. He found solace in refinishing old furniture, bringing new life to old pieces. He was a member of Grandview Park Baptist Church for over 50 years where he served as deacon, choir director, Sunday school teacher and occasionally led the congregation in Sunday service. One of his passions was the book of Revelation which he studied in depth and taught to others. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane; two daughters, Tracey Carriker and husband Mike of Lenoir; Melony Hughes and husband Mark of Greensboro; 3 grandcats and 3 granddogs with whom he liked to share his lunch and Moon Pies. Also surviving are his brother and two sisters: Charlie Triplett and wife Mildred of Lenoir; Mary Sue Drum of Lenoir; Eula Church and husband Clyde of Hudson; several nieces and nephews and Marvin's best friend of over 50 years, Russell Coffey. The family would like to thank Melissa Carlton, Sonya Triplett and the entire staff at Westpointe Medical Practice for their compassionate care over the past 3 years; a special thanks to Dr. David Harpole at Duke Cancer Center for his expert care and guidance; thanks also to Sarah Eckerd, Christy Pearson and Caregivers by Design and Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. Receiving will be Tuesday, March 22 from 6:00-7:30pm at Evans Funeral Service. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 23 at 2:00pm at Evans Funeral Service with burial following at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The Reverends Raymond Spann and Joe Barrett will officiate. Pallbearers are Marty Franklin, Jake Wheeler, Steven Clark, Andres Francisco, Tracy Hawkins and Preston Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Clark, Dennis McCall, Cecil Triplett, David Drum, Jesus Vicente, Steve Clark, Glen Franklin, Paul Clark and Landon Hawkins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care or to the building fund at Grandview Park Baptist Church.
