Jim Kerr Vale – James Edward “Jim” Kerr of Vale, NC, previously of Hudson, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 23, 2014. He was born in San Francisco, CA on November 1, 1949 to the late William Harley Kerr and Ernestine Israel Kerr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Billy, and his brother, Richard Kerr. Those left to cherish his memory are his five daughters, Colleen Lewicki of Garland, TX; Annalisa Powell and husband, Scott of Hudson; Jamisa Russell and husband, Nicholas of Lenoir; Natessa Venton of Hudson; and Latia Eaton and husband, Jason of Wilmington, NC. The loves of his life, his 10 grandchildren, Landon, Dylan, and Justin Powell; Evan, Lynsie, Abby and Collin Russell; Natalee and Nathaniel Venton; and Nicolas Kerr; one brother, Larry Kerr of California; and one sister, Jean Chamberlain and husband, Dennis of Phoenix, AZ; a special friend, Lois Simmons; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Jim served in the U.S. Army in the 64th Armor in Schweinfurt, Germany as a tank driver. He later was a turret mechanic instructor at Ft. Knox, KY. He was an avid gardener and a doting father and a special granddad. Anyone who knew him knew his love for his family. He will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends at Union Grove Baptist Church on Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 3:00 until 4:30 PM. The burial will be private with Pastor Sam Craven officiating.
