James Steven Harris

James Steven “Steve” Harris, age 71, of Lenior, NC entered peacefully into his eternal resting place with Jesus on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Steve was born on December 21, 1953 in Greenville, South Carolina to James Parry Harris, Jr. and Patricia Montgomery Harris.

Growing up, Steve lived in several states across the country and was an accomplished, record-setting track athlete in high school. After obtaining an Associates of Arts degree in Graphic Design and Commercial Printing, he spent many years in management at Paxar Corporation in Lenoir. With the company, Steve traveled internationally numerous times helping establish printing departments around the globe. His dedicated, influential work earned awards and special recognition. In later years, Steve became a long-distance truck driver with his wife, Carolyn, for 7 years. He was a gifted artist and shared his talents on special occasions. He had a witty sense of humor, and his desire to “make people laugh” became more obvious as his illness progressed. Of all hobbies, golf was his passion. He loved talking about, watching, and playing the sport as often as possible. Steve was a member of Kings Creek Baptist Church. Steve was the devoted husband to Carolyn for 37 years. He was also a loving father and step-father always taking time to make family gatherings special and fun.

Steve is survived by his wife, Carolyn Harris; daughter, Rachel Burchard of Kyle, Texas; step-daughter, Autumn (Bob) Cline of West Jefferson, NC; granddaughter, Harper Burchard; step-grandson, Isaiah Cline; sister Christine Miller (Scott) of Silver Spring, Maryland; and father, Dr. James P. Harris, Jr. of Salisbury, NC. Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews also survive.

Steve is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Harris, and brother, Dennis Harris.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 1:00 to 2:00pm at Kings Creek Baptist Church in Lenoir, NC. A celebration of life service will follow at 2:00pm.
