Mr. James Albert Hamby, age 78, of Lenoir passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Caldwell UNC Healthcare. Born June 22, 1940 in Wilkes county, James was a son of the late Canie Felix and Hester Faye Walker Hamby.James was a retired furniture worker and had worked at Kincaid Furniture Company for 38 years.James loved being outdoors, especially fishing and gardening.He will be remembered for the love of his grandchildren. He cared for everyone and he never met a stranger. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Gant Hamby; four sons, James Alan Hamby, Charles Steven Hamby (wife Lisa) of Ronda, Kenny Lester Hamby (wife Lisa) of Ronda and Christopher Brian Gant (wife Nikki) of Marion; a daughter, Vicky Lynn Hamby of Lenoir; seven brothers, Felix Hamby (wife Bonnie), Paul Hamby (wife Wanda), Oral Hamby (wife Mary), Joseph Hamby, Roy Hamby (wife Ann), Tommy Hamby (wife Debra), Bobby Hamby (wife Susie); six sisters, Virginia Melton (husband James), Louella Marley (husband Bobby), Glenda Foster (husband Denver), Mary Jo Hart, Dorothy Greene (husband Ronnie) and Wanda Ross (husband Sandy); he is also survived by nine grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives. A celebration of James’ life will be held on Sunday, December 23, 2018 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service at 3:00 PM with Pastor Louella Marley and Reverend Derick Lingerfelt officiating.Interment will follow the service at the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Gant, Chris Benge, Ronnie Greene, Oral Hamby, Kenny Hamby, Alan Hamby, Charles Hamby and Shane Hamby. The family will receive friends on Sunday at the funeral home, prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Memorials can be made to the Hamby family at 90 Tremont Street, Marion, NC28752.
