James Boyd Clarke

Lenoir, NC - James Boyd Clarke, 56 passed away on Friday, June 10, 2011 at Caldwell Hospice following a brief Illness.  Born August 18, 1954 the son of Mary Texie Holsclaw Clarke and Gene Stanford Clarke, James graduated high school from the N C School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC and college from University Of North Carolina at Greensboro, NC. James was a naturalist and truly enjoyed the beauty of nature. He was loved by all who knew him. Music and the Performing Arts were his passion.  He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Millard and Rhea Estes Holsclaw, his paternal Grandparents, Gomez and Etta Smith Clarke, his aunts Betty H. Weaver, Lavada C. Edmisten, Jewel C. Miller and his uncle Alfred Boyd Clarke.  In addition to his parents, he is survived by his aunts, Barbara H. Bolick, Valerie H. McRary, Sarah H. Arney and uncles Jack M. Holsclaw, Sr. and James Forrest Clarke, numerous cousins, other relatives and a host of very special friends.  A committal service will be held Sunday, June 12, 2011 , 3PM at Blue Ridge Memorial Park followed by a memorial service at 4PM at First United Methodist Church conducted by the Reverend Marietta Smith, James’Â best buddy.  Honorary Pallbearers will be cousins, Sam Edmisten, Jr., Jack M. Holsclaw, Jr., Christopher R. Curtis, Thomas B. McRary, Gregory A .McRary, Mark W. Bolick, Dennis R. Arney, Zachary McRary, Benjamin McRary, Dustin Arney and Tanner Arney.  As was James’ request, memorials be made to the Music Department of First United Methodist Church 309 Church St., NW., Lenoir, N.
