James Corbin Smith

Granite Falls, NC- Mr. James “Jim” Corbin Smith, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Caldwell County on June 11, 1931 to the late Albert Stanley Smith and Ida Bolick Smith. He was married to Revonda “Jeane” Cline Smith, of the home, for 60 years. Mr. Smith was a loving husband, awesome Dad and PawPaw, and a wonderful friend. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. He was a devoted member of Union Grove Baptist Church where he served as deacon and church greeter for many years. In 1993 he was named Man of the Year. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Wendy Smith; brother, Clyde Smith; and sister, Gladys Greene. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Cathy Hamby; Jeff Smith and wife, Teresa; Greg Smith and wife, Sue; and Tim Smith; sisters, Nellie Mullinax and husband, Wayne; Mary Turner; and brother, Stanley Smith; grandchildren, Christy Deal and husband, Aaron; Jenny Anders; Ben Smith and wife, Meredith; Jason Smith and wife, Christine; Courtney Smith; Justin Smith and wife, Jen; Keri Thomas and husband, Robby; Zac Smith and wife, Kristina; and Meagan Smith; 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mr. Smith’s life will be held at Union Grove Baptist Church on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at 5:00 PM with Pastor Sam Craven officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Ben Smith, Jason Smith, Zac Smith, Justin Smith, Aaron Deal, Robby Thomas, Dale Watson, and Payton Deal. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 prior to the service.
