Jack Pritchard

March 23, 1925 — November 15, 2016

Baton Community – Mr. Jack Pritchard, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care. He was born in Helen, WV on March 23, 1925 to the late Jack Gaither Pritchard and Retha Wills Pritchard. Jack was married for 67 years to Wanda Hurley Pritchard of the residence. Jack was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. He retired from Waldensian Bakeries as a route salesman after 32 years of service; but actually started another job with Baton Water Corporation before retiring from the bakery. He worked at Baton Water for 5 years. He then spent the next 17 years with Shaire Center handling maintenance and lawn work. Jack and Wanda were active members of Mountain Grove Church for 50 years. Jack held numerous responsibilities, including Sunday School teacher, Deacon, usher and he truly loved his role as greeter so he could talk to everyone. Outside of working, Jack’s greatest pleasure in life was meeting people. Jack was also a long-time member of the Baton Ruritan Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Pritchard; and sisters, Helen Haynes, Ruth Johnson, Betty Duncan, and Wanda Ritch. Other than his wife, he is survived by his children Bob Pritchard of Charlotte; Susie McCall and husband, Randy of Sawmills; Jackie Moore and husband, Smith Moore, Jr. of Cajah’s Mtn.; brothers, Curtis Pritchard and wife, Mina of Lenoir; Tommy Pritchard and wife, Thelma of Lenoir; sisters, Pat Parham and husband Ray of Granite Falls; Daphney Weaver and husband, Paul of Rhodhiss; Eleanor Hollar and husband, Roger of Kings Creek; and Lora Davis and husband, Hobart of Boone; grandchildren, Lauren Givens and husband, Drew; Corrie McCall; Daniel Moore and Caroline Moore; great-grandson, Abel Givens; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at Mountain Grove Church on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 2:30 PM with Pastor Cliff Black and Pastor Jeff Burkhimer officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Caldwell County Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 prior to the service.
