Lenoir, NC- Mr. Jack Wilson Helderman, age 83, of Lenoir, died Thursday, February 7, 2008 at his home. Born July 12 1924 in Caldwell County, Mr. Helderman was a son of the late William Cary and Gladys Barlow Helderman and the husband of Edith Smith Helderman to whom he was married for 60 years. Mr. Helderman was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW. He enjoyed gardening and was retired from Singer Furniture Company. He was a member of Lower Creek Baptist Church where he was known as the ?Candy Man? by all the kids. He was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Surviving other than his wife are three sons, Larry Helderman and wife Charlene of Hudson; Terry Helderman and wife Nancy of Ocean Isle Beach; Gary Helderman and wife Cheryl of Hudson; one daughter, Sherry H. Kelley and husband Mark of Lenoir; three brothers, Hershel Helderman of Cleveland, OH; William Cary Helderman, Jr. of Hudson, FL; Franklin Helderman of Richfield, OH; two sisters, Virginia Lowman and Margaret Hopper, both of Newport Richie, FL; 11 Grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene Helderman, Carroll Helderman and an infant brother. A celebration of Mr. Helderman?s life will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, February 10, 2008 at Lower Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Todd Braswell officiating. Burial will follow with Military Rites in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Richard Helderman, Chris Helderman, Jeff Drum, Darrin Davidson, Scott Melton and Joe Isaac. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 7 until 8:30 PM at Evans Funeral Service in Lenoir.
