Granite Falls, NC- Mr. J.W. “Dub” Smith, Sr., age 63, of Granite Falls, went to his Heavenly Home, Tuesday, May 14, 2013 after his courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Smith was born March 17, 1950 in Lincoln County, a son of the late Paul and Mildred Smith. He was a member of Lenoir Community Church and retired from 25 years of truck driving. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, J.W. Smith, Jr., and a brother Haskel Smith. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Boggs Smith “Peas & Carrots” to whom they had shared 28 years of marriage; his daughter, Lisa Gantt and husband Scott of Conover; two step-daughters, Ashley Beaty and husband Mike of the home; and Heather Wilson of Granite Falls and 4 Grandchildren, Katie Rudisill and husband Jeffery of Hickory; Travis Gates of Conover; Kimberly Smith and Amber Smith of the home. Also surviving are two brothers, J.B. Smith and James Smith, both of Newton; 6 Sisters, Prue Angel of Lincolnton, Joann Hedrick of Conover, Patricia Shook of Vale, Jessie Stephens of Hildebran, Rita Pope of Catawba and Brenda McCrary of Newton; a sister-in-law, Diane Smith of Maiden and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mr. Smith’s life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Lenoir Community Church with Reverend Daniel McGee officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the service at Lenoir Community Church.
