Ivalene Cranford Smith

Lenoir, NC – Ivalene Cranford Smith, age 98, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Caldwell Hospice. Ms. Smith was born October 16, 1914 in Etowah County, Alabama to Gus and Mary Cranford. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, E. Frank Smith of Tuscaloosa, AL, and daughter, Carolyn Smith Hendricks of Cary, NC. She was also preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Smith McDade of Lenoir, NC; grandson, Gibson McDade and wife, Ashley; great-granddaughter, Carrington McDade, all of Lenoir, NC; grandson, Darryll Hendricks and wife Gabrielle Steinfels; great-grandsons, Max Hendricks and Benjamin Hendricks, all of New York City, NY; and many nieces and nephews and one brother-in-law; and special friend and caretaker of 4 years, Kristy Rose of Lenoir, NC. Ms. Smith was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lenoir. She lived in Alabama until 1990 and then moved to North Carolina to be closer to her children. She had been involved in the churches wherever she lived and had more friends than most her age. She loved to sew, play cards, read, and visit with friends. She will be missed by all those who knew her. A memorial service will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 28, 2012 in the Gathering Room of First United Methodist Church in Lenoir with Reverend Jamie Armstrong officiating.
