Irene Baker Knight

Irene Baker Knight, 81, passed away gently Saturday, November 30 at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. Irene was born September 30, 1943 as the youngest of eight to Clarence and Margaret Baker of Lenoir.

A lifelong resident of Caldwell County, she graduated from Hudson High School in 1962 and was married to Paul Douglas Knight, Sr from Happy Valley area till his passing in 2006. She had one son, Paul Douglas Knight, Jr, that she loved with all her heart. After diligently going to school part time and at night, Irene graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1990. Irene initially worked at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Medical Records and progressed to Discharge Planning and Social Work. She also worked as a teacher’s aide and finished her career as a Rehabilitation Therapist in Lenoir for Easter Seals UCP, doing what she loved to do, helping the less fortunate. Irene faithfully attended the Resurrection Hope Church of God and was a member of the Grace Holden Circle. She enjoyed making crafts, cooking sweets, and was an avid photographer with a love for travel and sense for adventure.

Irene is survived by her son Douglas Knight, his wife, Charlene Knight, and their children, Micah, Caleb and AnnaGrace Knight, all from Statesville.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents and her seven brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Resurrection Hope Church of God in Whitnel with a Memorial Service to follow at 11 a.m. Pastor Michael Medlock and Pastor James Ritch will be officiating. A burial at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens will follow.
