Irene Bush

November 28, 1926 — February 11, 2017

Mrs. Irene Knight Bush, 90, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at her residence. She was born in Caldwell County on November 28, 1926 to the late George Hackett Knight and Bertie Arney Knight. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jimmie Bush, a grandson Benjamin Macchia, stepmother Pearl Poarch Knight, sisters Catherine Powers Phillips, Georgia Shaver Pennell, Willa Mae Nichols and brother J. C. Knight. Her daughters Kay Story and husband Richard of Graham, NC, Karen Spohn and husband Elliott of Granite Falls, NC, DeAnne Macchia and husband Mark of Hudson, NC, sons Dean Bush and wife Karen of Lenoir, NC and David Bush and wife Debbie of Hudson, NC survive her. She was Nanny to her surviving nine grandchildren Jana Story of Gibsonville NC, Abram Spohn and wife Missy of Centennial, CO, Melanie Bumgarner and husband Dustin of Granite, NC, Madison Bush of Weaverville, NC, Hillary Bush of Raleigh, NC, Jake Macchia, Brett Macchia, Morgan Bush, Isaac Bush all of Hudson NC. As well as four great-grandchildren, Kaytelyn Story of Mebane, NC, Emma Grace Hiatt, Sydnee Bumgarner of Granite Falls, NC and Harper Spohn of Centennial, CO. Additionally, sister-in-law, Marceline Knight, eight nieces and nephews, Elaine Tolbert, Debbie Swan, Brenda Lackey, Kathy Bickett, Tammy Lovins, Mary Greene, Bobby Powers and John Barry Nichols, and special friend Phyllis Lanford family survive her. Mrs. Bush was a lifetime member of Central Baptist Church of Lenoir where she worked in the nursery and taught a toddler Sunday school class. She and her late husband were owner/operators of Bush Grocery and Bush Cabinet Shop on the Walt Arney Road. She was a homemaker and beloved mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking, crocheting, sewing, attending sporting events and performances of her grandchildren, and putting up vegetables from her garden. Her family will remember her as a woman of strong faith whose words of advice, listening ear, infectious laugh and unconditional love will be greatly missed. A celebration of Mrs. Bush life will be held at Central Baptist Church of Lenoir, on Wednesday, February 15 at 3:00p.m. with Pastor John Jernigan and Pastor Ted Williams officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials can be made to Central Baptist Church 311 Connelly Springs Road, Lenoir, N. C. 28645.
