Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Ida Irene Coffey Woods, age 97, of Lenoir, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2016 at Caldwell UNC Healthcare. Born February 23, 1919 in Watauga County, Irene was a daughter of the late Leon and Marion Norris Coffey. She was the oldest member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church. She was a seamstress and enjoyed making wedding dresses, linens and other crafts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Woods; three brothers, Wade Coffey, Homer Coffey and Owen Coffey; three sisters, Thelma Deal, Marie Broyhill and Helen Carroll. She is survived by her children, Vivian Fisher(husband Don) and Leonard Woods (wife Pam) and Catherine Avery; a sister, Jewell Moody; a brother, Wayne Coffey; she is also survived by eight grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great grandchild. A celebration of Irene’s life will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Dan Duke and Pastor Todd Braswell officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Woods Family Cemetery in Darby, NC. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service.
