Hubert Edward Nelson

Hubert Nelson Lenoir – Hubert Edward Nelson, age 91, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2015 at his residence. Mr. Nelson was born in the Patterson Community of Caldwell County on January 23, 1924 to the late John Henry Nelson and Alice Robbins Nelson. He was married to Norma Andrews Nelson for 68 years. Mr. Nelson was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy where he served in the South Pacific. During his career in the Navy he received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Naval Air Medal and other medals as well. He later retired from the Postal service as a rural mail carrier. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Nelson Baker and his brothers, Vernon, Turner, Stanley, Brown, Bill and Bob Nelson. Other than his wife, he is survived by his sons, Ken Nelson and wife, Elaine; Mike Nelson and wife, Susan of Durham; and Charles Nelson; grandchildren, Rob Nelson and wife, Dawn of San Diego, CA; Christina Nelson Strom and husband, Patrick of Durham; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Levi Strom of Durham; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 11:00 until 12:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with Military Honors being presented by the Navy and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
