Howard William Cooke

Lenoir, NC – Mr. Howard William Cooke, age 89, passed away on October 17, 2011 at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care. Mr. Cooke was born in Watauga County on January 26, 1922 to the late Alonza Cooke and Jennie Townsend Cooke. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Arlene Cooke; three sisters, Arvilla Waldrop, Hazel Williams, and Arlee Cooke; and two brothers, Byron Cooke and Aston Cooke. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen Houck Cooke; daughter, Nadine Clark and husband, Doug of Lenoir; and daughter, C. Lynn Moose and husband, Hal of Olin, NC; brother, Lowell Cooke of Blowing Rock; grandchildren, Sherry Smith and husband, Sam; Brooks Clark and wife Jennifer; Nathan Moose; and Haley Simmons and husband Aaron; great-grandchildren, Coleman and Rylan Clark; Abby Smith and Malloree Simmons; step- great- grandsons, Alex Smith and Jaymin Howard; and numerous other relatives. A celebration of Mr. Cooke’s life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Alan Carr officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: Brooks Clark, Sam Smith, Mike Nelson, Benny Earp, Charles Kincaid, and Ronnie Taylor. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service.
