On the morning of June 29, 2022, Howard Edward Campbell, 84, passed away at Amorem Hospice in Lenoir, NC. He was born to the late Howard Sidney Campbell and Lou Nell Williams Campbell on April 21, 1938 in Wilkes County, Georgia. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Carter Campbell, of the home; two children, Mark Carter Mixon (Jane) of Braselton, GA and Jennifer Campbell Vermilyea (Jeff) of Newnan, GA; grandsons, Paul Campbell Vermilyea (Audrey) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Lt. Samuel Richard Vermilyea (Giselle) of Virginia Beach, VA, Carter Andrew Mixon of Braselton, GA, Austin Mark Mixon of Atlanta, GA, John Thomas Vermilyea of Millidgeville, GA, James Edward Vermilyea of Newnan, GA, and Isaac Mark Vermilyea of Bell, FL; and three beloved great-grandchildren, Margot Louise Vermilyea of Tuscaloosa, AL, Jones Dy Vermilyea of Virginia Beach, VA and Francis Campbell Vermilyea of Tuscaloosa, AL. He was raised and educated in Athens, Georgia and was a veteran of the United States Navy and the United States Air Force. Upon completion of serving in the US Air Force, he was employed by NASA. He later formed his own company, E. Campbell Associates, Inc. and designed clinical laboratory systems throughout Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. He enjoyed first and foremost, his family, followed by sailing, golfing at Stono Ferry, and spending time at his beach cottage on Kiawah Island, SC.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at First Baptist Church with Reverend Josh Hughes officiating, Lenoir, NC, 28645.
The family will receive friends from 10:15-11:00 am prior to the service.
