Herschel Kirby

Herschel Kirby, age 92, went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 28th,2022. He was born on January 20th 1930 in Caldwell County to the late Shuford and Vera Kirby. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Inez Kirby, and by one sister, Betty Sue Kincaid. He is survived by one daughter, Tammy K. Malcolm of Hickory (husband Jim) and caregivers, Linda and Bradley McCall of Lenoir. He is also survived by two sisters and one brother: Virgie Sorrel of Asheville, Wilma Crotts, and Dwane Kirby both of Lenoir. He was employed at Great Lakes Carbon of Morganton for nearly 30 years, where he held a position of a supervisor. He was also a former Lenoir police officer. He was a proud member of Flemings Chapel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He also served proudly in the U.S Army during the Korean War Era. Due to Covid-19, the funeral will consist of a church service Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Flemings Chapel Baptist Church with Reverend David Payne officiating.The family respectfully requests that social distancing guidelines be observed as well as masks be worn. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.Mr. Kirby will be receiving Military Rights.
