Lenoir- Mr. Herbert ?Hub? Monroe Greer, age 82, of Lenoir, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at his residence, surrounded by his family and friends. Born August 19, 1929 in Wilkes County, Hub was a son of the late, G.D. and Elsie Phillips Greer. Hub had retired from the Fairfield Chair Company and was Baptist by faith. Hub was an Army veteran who served during the Korean conflict. He was well known for his cap that read ?Don?t Know, Don?t Care?; however, his family and friends knew that ?He Knew Much and Cared Deeply?. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Greer, Bob Phillips and Arley Phillips; and three sisters, Audrey Davis, Lennis Eller, and Avis Suddreth. Survivors include his special friend, Evelyn Ritch; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Dean Greer, Doug and Patsy ?Pat? Greer all from Lenoir; a sister and brother-in-law, Novella and Thomas Davis of Blacksburg, SC. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved and treated as his children; also, his special dog, Oreo. A graveside celebration of Hub?s life will be held on Friday, March 9, 2012 at the Blue Ridge Memorial Park at 11:00 AM with Reverend Randy Goode officiating. The family will receive friends at Evans Funeral Service & Crematory on Thursday, March 8, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Memorials can be made to the Grandin Baptist Church, Kings Creek Baptist Church or to Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care.
