Herbert Pinkney Craig

Lenoir, NC – Mr. Herbert Pinkney Craig, age 95, of Baton School Road, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2011 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care. Mr. Craig was born in Caldwell County on November 29, 1916 to the late John Mike Craig and Cora Smith Craig. Mr. Craig was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served in New Guinea and the Solomon Islands and also received 3 Bronze Stars, the Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Floyd Craig and Quinton Craig; his sisters, Carrie Crotts, Effie Chandler, and Colene Yount. He is survived by his brother, Guy Craig and wife, Frances and his sister-in-law, Carolyn Craig; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:30 P.M.on Thursday, December 8, 2011 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Pastor Jerry Yount and Pastor Randy Gibson officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM prior to the service in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service.
