Mr. Henry Christian Jensen, of the Oak Hill Community, passed on peacefully surrounded by loved ones at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care on Thursday, March 23, 2017 in Lenoir, NC at the age of 88. Henry was born in 1928 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Henry Bernhard Thorvald Jensen and Valborg Marie Kamilla Jensen of Denmark. He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Elise Little (husband Fred) of Gulfport, MS, and Bernie Jensen of Ridgewood, NJ. Henry was married to his lifelong sweetheart, Audrey Archer Jensen, on April 11, 1958 in Staten Island, where they began raising five children before moving to Lenoir. Henry is survived by his wife, five children, Darlene Young, husband Kenny, of Indian Trail, Judy Jensen, partner Paul Ingle, of Lenoir, Cindee Jensen of Maysville, Henry Jensen Jr., wife Tammie, of Granite Falls, and Thomas Jensen, wife April, of Lenoir; seven grandchildren, Ashlee Jensen, Ryan Cook, Amanda Dillard, Scott Young, Summer Jensen, Hailey Jensen and Chase Jensen; two great grandchildren, Ava Maxwell and Neiko Jeffries; he is also survived by a cousin and lifelong friend, Ellie Hudo of Auburn, NY, a sister in law, Clarice Jensen, and many nieces and nephews of Ridgewood, NJ. Henry was a ship builder, steel-worker and skilled automotive and auto-body repairman, and loved cars. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do with his hands. He served over two years in the Korean War for the United States Army infantry, obtaining the rank of Corporal. After moving to North Carolina, he raised chicken and cattle before working and retiring from the Caldwell County DDC. He was very well-liked and respected by his friends and neighbors in the Oak Hill community, and wherever he went, never met a stranger. He was a wise man who loved the mountains, the outdoors as well as the sea, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Those who knew and loved him will sorely miss his kindness, his humor and his fantastic stories. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 5:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Pastor Gary Waters and Pastor Rodney Raby officiating. Interment will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with full Military Honors provide by the National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers will be Henry Jensen Jr., Chase Jensen, Kenny Young, Ryan Cook, Paul Ingle and David Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Foster and Steve Brown. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
