Helen Alley

Mrs. Helen Katherine Alley, age 82, of Lenoir passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Trinity Village in Hickory. Born May 25, 1935 in Caldwell county, Helen was a daughter of the late Tate and Ruth Smith Benfield.She was a devoted member of West Lenoir Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School.Helen also enjoyed reading her Bible and doing crossword puzzles. She worked many years in the textile industry. One of the things she enjoyed most was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Monroe Alley, Jr.; and an infant brother, Roger Benfield. Survivors include her children, Larry Alley (wife Cynthia), Beverly Small (husband Michael), Sandra Price (husband Joe), Patty Lail (husband Greg) and Lorie Ensley (husband Jerry); a sister, Loretta Hucks; three brothers, Dean Benfield, Kenneth Benfield and Bill Benfield; nine grandchildren, Kristen Boldin, Kendal Bray, Joey Small, Jeffrey Small, Christopher Price, Jacob Lail, Matthew Lail, Jeffrey Gearhart, Jr., and Jennifer Dorff; five great grandchildren, Nicholas Boldin, Kylie Gearhart, Alani Gearhart, Jaxson Dorff and Aleighia Small; she is also survived by numerous other relatives. A celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the West Lenoir Baptist Church with Pastor Rick Safriet officiating.Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir.
