Hazel S. Woodward

February 3, 1924 — November 28, 2019

Lenoir- Hazel Suddreth Woodward, born February 3, 1924 to the late Lee and Allie Suddreth in Caldwell County went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, November 28, 2019. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Harold Woodward; brothers, Coy Suddreth, Claude Suddreth, Jack Suddreth and Jay Suddreth; and sister, Colene Saunders. She leaves three children, Shirley Grigsby and husband, James; Boyd Woodward and wife, Peggy; and Judy Musick and husband, Glen; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Hazel lived in the Collettsville area as a child and accepted her Lord and Savior at an early age and lived those Christian values her entire life. Her family later moved to Hudson where she graduated from Hudson High School. She married Harold Woodward in 1939. In early 1942, Harold, Hazel and their two children moved from Granite Falls to Wilmington, NC where Harold worked in the shipyard. In 1947, Harold, Hazel and their 3 children moved to Lenoir for one year and then moved to Newport News, VA where Harold worked in the shipyard until retirement.Harold and Hazel then moved to Buffalo Cove, NC where they built and operated Fish-Out Pond. Hazel lived with her children in her last days. A celebration of Hazel’s life will be held at Lenoir Church of Christ onPowell Road on Monday, December 2, 2019 at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Joe Helton officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00 prior to the service. Interment will be at the Woodward Family Cemetery.
