Hazel Louise Broyhill Payne

Hudson, NC- Mrs. Hazel Louise Broyhill Payne, age 85, of Hudson, died Sunday, April 19, 2009 in Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. Born May 2, 1923 in Watauga County, Mrs. Payne was a daughter of the late Clarence and Beulah Younce Broyhill and the wife of the late Rex Payne. Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Greene, son-in-law, Ernest Greene, 3 brothers, J.D. Broyhill, Burl Broyhill, Dewey Broyhill and one sister, Evelyn Cole. She is survived by 3 sons, Colen Payne and wife Shirley of Lenoir; David Payne and wife Tammy of Lenoir; Roger Payne of Hudson; 2 daughters, Patricia Townsend and husband Woody of Lenoir; Diane Suttle and friend Joe of Todd; one sister, Opal Greene of Fleetwood; 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of Mrs. Payne̢۪s life will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Liberty Grove Baptist Church in Deep Gap with Reverend Edd Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Pallbearers will be Steven Greene, Scott Greene, Gary Greene, Allen Greene, Dennis Yates, and Tray Sheets.
