Hickory, NC- Harry Wilbur Staines, age 84, of Hickory, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. Born August 7, 1927 in Baltimore County, MD, Harry was a son of the late Christian and Margaretta Fishpaw Staines. Harry was Lutheran by faith and was a truck driver for many years. He retired from Caldwell Freight and Gaines Trucking Company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Florence Bowlin Staines; a daughter, Dianne Swanson; he was also preceded by three sisters and a brother. Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Cross of Newton, and Sharon Horne and husband Howard of Baton; five sons and a daughter in law, Harry Staines Jr. and wife Sharon of Hudson, Wayne Staines of Charlotte, Robert Staines of Granite Falls, Randy Staines of Hudson, and Ronnie Staines of Hickory; he is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and numerous other relatives. A celebration of Harry’s life will be held on Monday, November 7, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service. Officiating will be Reverend Bobby Holtsclaw. Interment will follow the service at the Blue Ridge Memorial Park with full Military Honors.  Serving as pallbearers will be Norman Staines, Chris Staines, Damon Kirby, Billy Martin, Will Moretz and Chris Allison. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Memorials can be made to Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley at 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
